Webinar-Migrating-Legacy-System-Data-to-SAP-B1

SAP Business One is one of the leading ERP solutions for SMBs available in the market today. As a back-end Enterprise Resource Planning solution, SAP B1 has been a part of many successful small and medium-sized enterprises. With all of its offerings, SAP B1 is one of the most widely used and highly stable ERPs. To adopt SAP B1 as the back-end ERP, the business must be able to migrate all their data in SAP for an uninterrupted service.

For an online business, Data Migration refers to the process of transferring important data from one platform to another in such a way that no data is lost and neither sorted redundant. Data Migration is generally considered a very complicated task since a lot of business data is on stake. It is very crucial for any business to be able to perform a clean and uninterrupted data migration process – programmatic data migration frees up the manual tasks and helps in achieving automation.

People often face the most intricate difficulties while having to undergo data migration across different platforms and applications according to the business requirements. Also, for any business working with SAP B1, a seamless and robust data migration process is always coveted.

To educate people more on the Data Migration process, APPSeCONNECT recently organized a webinar – “Best Practices of Migrating your Legacy System Data to SAP Business One”. The webinar was aimed at eradicating the hindrances faced by business entities while having to undergo data migration. The webinar also talks about how data migration can be reliable and easily achievable via certain practices.

The webinar was presented by Mr. Abhishek Sur, Solution Architect at InSync Tech-Fin Solutions. The webinar was held on 23rd November 2017 and the key points of discussion of the webinar were:

Webinar: Migrating your Legacy System Data to SAP Business One

Data Migration to SAP B1 is very critical. Here is the Webinar Recap on Migrating Legacy System Data to SAP Business One without any interruption!

Here are some of the Questions and Answers addressed during the webinar:

1. How are Data Migration and Data Import Export different?

The data export/import process is generally performed in the same kind of systems whereas data migration refers to the movement of data where the system is itself changed. For example, data export/import occurs when we are trying to move the data from one SQL server instance to another instance, whereas data migration can be in the picture when a user might want change from their Oracle server to SAP server.

2. Can we use Service Layer for migration purposes as opposed to DI-Server or DI-API?

Any application that has an API can be made use of in the process of data migration. Since SAP provides REST based APIs, it is easy to create a data migration tool based out of it.

3. SAP B1 has DTW – is there a problem using that?

It is important to note that DTW works only with some specific kinds of data structure. In case a user wants to export an excel sheet in SAP, DTW works completely fine. However, in case of data migration, a user first must do a data mapping. If there occurs a scenario where a complex logic is needed to be used/created, DTW does not work.

4. Do I need DI-API for Data Migration?

It is entirely the business owner’s choice and there is no hard-and-fast rule. However, DI-API is easy as compared to the complexities of DI-Server – it is still the user’s choice to go with DI-API, DI-Server, Service layer or pull the data directly from HANA.
